netflix removed a fan favorite episode of community from its streaming service on friday, deleting “advanced dungeons and dragons†from its selection of season 2 episodes. By the company’s reasoning, this is due to the use of blackface in the episode.
One of the best episodes of the show community was removed from netflix for featuring blackface. However, like mentioned in the scene, the blackface wasn't used to be racist. The characters are playing dungeons and dragons, the character using blackface is dressing up as a dark elf. The show also acknowledges that it is racist, pointing out its bad. The joke is the character clearly doesn't realize he is being offensive.

Feb 4, 2011 s2e14: i’ll admit my only contact with the world of dungeons and dragons was a few years ago when i finally saw the episode of freaks and geeks where the nerds convince james franco’s bad boy to play the fantasy game with them. I may or may not have harbored interest in the game specifically because james franco was indirectly involved through television magic, but i never followed that through to fruition. We carry a full line of dungeons & dragons books and supplies (dice, dice bags, miniatures and painting supplies, hex/grid maps, etc. ). We also carry dozens of other rpgs as well. Our d&d player community is very active, with regular campaigns played in our game room every wednesday, friday, and saturday…and sometimes other days too!.
Joel mchale says a 'community' movie could happen even if you've never played dungeons & dragons (which this writer has admittedly avoided), harmonquest seamlessly blends live performance, animation, and role-playing games into a thoroughly enjoyable, laugh-out-loud funny show. As in actually lol, not just tweet about it -- though harmon fans will probably do that too. And that's kind of the point, while not being the point at all.
